Glasgow’s award-winning, exhilarating contemporary folk quartet Tarran will release their long-awaited debut album in early 2027—the culmination of seven years spent forging their sound on stages across Europe since 2019, including Celtic Connections, Edinburgh int. Harp Festival, Celtic Valle d’Aosta (ITA), Lorient Interceltic (FRA), and Stage Gooik (BEL). .
Tarran's roots are in both Ireland and Scotland. The band comprises Sophie Joint (Keys/Synth), Breanna Wilson (Fiddle), Malachy Arnold (Harp), and Gregor Black (Drum Kit/Bodhrán). Using elements of funk, blues and contemporary rhythm, the band creates a lively and innovative twist on traditional music.
2027 ALBUM RELEASE
2024 Heartwood EP offered the first substantial glimpse of Tarran's promise as recording artists, capturing the sound they had been developing through performances across Scotland and at festivals in Italy, France and elsewhere in Europe. Two subsequent singles, 2024's Sienna and MacLennan's Doorstep, released in 2026 have whetted the appetite for the album, which will be launched at Celtic Connections 2027.
Award-winning
Tarran won the Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Award in 2020 and Hands Up for Trad’s Battle of the Folk Bands in 2023, before receiving a 2024 MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards nomination.
Three members—Arnold, Wilson and Joint—have been finalists for BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year.
